A video from Basantpur, Udaynarayanpur shows a civic volunteer being tied up, assaulted, and humiliated by a group of men has sparked controversy in West Bengal. Sridhar Chakraborty, the civic volunteer claimed that the assailants are affiliated with the Trinamool Congress (TMC). The assailants allegedly forced him to confess to being bribed to defame Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, compelling him to perform sit-ups, kowtow, and apologize.

The BJP has condemned the incident, alleging that Trinamool workers attempted to frame a local BJP leader, referred to as Lalu da in the video, by extracting a forced statement from the volunteer.

The TMC has dismissed these claims as baseless and politically motivated. The police have arrested two individuals and are investigating both the assault and the allegations in the video, with the civic volunteer's role also under scrutiny.
