- Conspiracy to plant IED on Independence Day
Guwahati, 14 June (HS): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against three people, including the chief of the banned militant organization ULFA (Independent), Paresh Barua alias Paresh Assam, for conspiring to carry out IED blasts in various parts of the state on Independence Day 2024.
According to the information released on Saturday, the chargesheet filed by the NIA states that Paresh Barua, also known as Kamruz Jamal Khan, Noor-uz-Jamal, Pradeep, Pawan Barua etc., is the Self-style commander-in-chief of ULFA (Independent). The two others whose names have surfaced along with him are Abhijit Gogoi alias Abhijit Assam and Jahnu Barua alias Arnab Assam alias Hantu.
Charges have been framed against these three under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and Explosive Substances Act.
The NIA investigation has revealed that IED was planted by ULFA (I) in Dispur Last Gate area of Guwahati on the occasion of Independence Day in 2024. Apart from this, attempts were made to install explosives at many other places as well.
It is noteworthy that the NIA took responsibility for this case in September 2024. After the completion of the investigation, the agency has recently filed a charge sheet in a special court in Guwahati.---------------
