Inter Miami faces a setback ahead of their FIFA Club World Cup 2025 debut against Egypt's Al Ahly as defender Jordi Alba is sidelined due to a muscle injury. Coach Javier Mascherano at a press conference that along with Alba, midfielder Yannick Bright will also miss the match, though he remains optimistic both could return for future games. The absence of Alba, a key figure in defense and in facilitating plays to Lionel Messi, is expected to significantly weaken Miami’s defensive setup and attacking momentum. Additionally, Yannick Bright's lack of presence will affect the team’s physicality, particularly alongside veteran players like Sergio Busquets.

Javier Mascherano acknowledged the challenge posed by the missing players but expressed excitement about participating in this prestigious tournament, viewing it as a chance for self-assessment. Inter Miami, competing in Group 'A', will also face Porto and Palmeiras in the group stage, entering the tournament as hosts after winning the MLS Supporters Shield last season. However, they were eliminated early in the playoffs by Atlanta, while Los Angeles Galaxy captured the MLS Cup. Concerns arose regarding the match venue, as media noted incomplete field lining. Mascherano expressed faith in FIFA's organizational capabilities while emphasizing the team's focus on controllable elements.
