In a focused effort to strengthen surveillance and border management along the India-Bangladesh border, Additional Director General (ADG) of the Eastern Command of the Border Security Force (BSF), Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, concluded a three-day inspection tour of critical border regions in West Bengal’s Nadia, Murshidabad, and Malda districts.
The BSF, in a statement issued Saturday morning, confirmed that the visit took place from June 10 to 12 and was aimed at assessing operational readiness, reviewing anti-smuggling strategies, and evaluating ongoing infrastructural developments along the international boundary. ADG Aggarwal was accompanied by Inspector General of the South Bengal Frontier Anish Prasad, and Deputy Inspectors General Anil Kumar Sinha and Mitrabhanu Mahapatra from the Berhampore and Malda sector headquarters.

Field Inspections and Strategic Reviews
On the first day of his visit, Aggarwal inspected the Shikarpur Border Outpost (BOP) under the 11th Battalion, where he reviewed border sensitivity, surveillance arrangements, and overall preparedness. He later visited the Madhubana and Jalangi BOPs, holding direct interactions with deployed personnel to gather ground-level feedback on smuggling operations, infiltration risks, and daily operational challenges. Commending their alertness and dedication, he instructed the troops to prioritize strict enforcement against cross-border smuggling.

Inauguration of New Outpost and Riverine Assessments
On June 11, the ADG inaugurated a newly constructed BOP at Kakmarichar under the 73rd Battalion and encouraged the personnel posted there. He then assessed the border management at Nimtita BOP, Shivpur Ghat, Mandir Ghat, and the unfenced Sabdalpur area, reviewing boat patrolling protocols and dominance strategies along riverine stretches. At Churiantpur BOP, Aggarwal examined the recently repaired segment of the International Border Fence (IBBF) to ensure structural integrity.

Final Day in Malda Sector
On the concluding day of his tour, Aggarwal visited the Mahadipur BOP under the 119th Battalion in Malda sector, where he held informal discussions with BSF personnel. He also inspected the Mahadipur Land Customs Station (LCS), engaging with customs officials, on-duty security personnel, and local civilians to better understand operational dynamics and civilian interface at the border crossing. Later, he evaluated the security situation at the H.C. Pur and R.K. Wadhwa BOPs under the 88th Battalion.
Throughout the visit, ADG Aggarwal emphasized that the BSF remains firmly committed to ensuring robust border security and taking decisive action against smuggling, infiltration, and other trans-border crimes. He stressed the need for modern surveillance technologies and reinforced fencing to respond swiftly to any suspicious activity along the border.
“Any lapse in border security will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” Aggarwal said, reiterating the force’s commitment to upholding national interest and operational excellence across all sectors of responsibility.
