Dehradun, June 14 (H.S.): A total of 451 cadets graduated from the Indian Military Academy (IMA) today, culminating in the Passing Out Parade (POP), where 419 Indian officers and 32 foreign cadets were commissioned. The ceremony, part of the IMA's 156th passing out event, was reviewed by the Chief Guest, Lieutenant General BKGM Lathsa Rodrigo, Commander of the Sri Lankan Army. Cadets marched onto the drill square of the Chetwood Building, showcasing their discipline and pride, supported by the Army Band's music. The parade featured 156 Regular Course cadets, 45 from the Technical Entry Scheme, and 139 from the Technical Graduate Course, totaling 452 participants.

During the Peeping and Oath Ceremony, each cadet became a Lieutenant in their respective armies. The occasion included a bouquet drop from army helicopters. General Rodrigo praised the cadets and trainers for their impressive performance and recognized outstanding achievements with awards, including the Overall Best Performance. He reflected on his own commissioning experience from the IMA in December 1990 and acknowledged the strong military ties between India and Sri Lanka, aiming to enhance mutual cooperation.

In his address, General Rodrigo expressed emotional pride as an alumnus, recalling his beginnings at the academy. He asserted that the uniform signifies a complete lifestyle and emphasized that true leadership stems from character and daily actions rather than rank. He highlighted the core responsibilities cadets now bear: towards the nation, their soldiers, and families of patriots. He identified four foundational values—discipline, honesty, loyalty, and honor—as essential for success and urged cadets to embody pride and purpose in their new roles within the military.

Concluding his speech, General Rodrigo inspired the cadets with the quote from Field Marshal Sam Maneckshaw, urging them to be true, honest, and fearless. At the end of the parade, he called on all cadets to commit fully to national service, affirming they were close to achieving a historic moment in their commissioning.

Awards were presented, including the Sword of Honor to Academy Cadet Adjutant Anni Nehra, and medals for merit to Ronit Ranjan Nayak (Gold), Anni Nehra (Silver), and Anurag Verma (Bronze). Notable mentions also included best performances in various categories among Technical Graduate Course cadets and foreign cadets.

The IMA, established on October 1, 1932, boasts a rich legacy, having trained over 65,000 cadets, including from friendly nations, since its inception. The ceremony saw the attendance of numerous dignitaries, senior military officials, and family members amidst strict security arrangements by local police.
