Pagla river wreaks havoc in Shanti Bhagalpur on Assam-Arunachal border

Udalguri (Assam), 12 June (HS): The havoc of Pagla river in Shanti Bhagalpur on Assam-Arunachal border of Majbat has created panic among the villagers. The river water has destroyed hundreds of bighas of agricultural land of Bhagalpur village.

During the rainy season, the strong currents of water coming from Arunachal Pradesh pose a threat to the villagers every year. Due to the lack of embankment, the existence of the village is slowly moving towards extinction. Last year, after informing the local MLA Charan Bodo about this, an embankment was constructed there. But people have complained that the embankment work was very poor under the patronage of the MLA. Due to this, the soil of the embankment built by the MLA was washed away in the first rain of last year.

This time also people are worried due to the strong currents of water during the rains. As an alternative, people have decided to build an embankment in collaboration with OSD Raju Dhakal. After the financial support of the people and the financial assistance of the OSD, the reconstruction of the embankment was again started on the Pagla river in Shanti Bhaglapur village. The villagers have demanded the government to take permanent steps for the construction of the embankment.
