Bhubaneswar, 12 June (H.S.): Odisha is set to receive a much-needed respite from the relentless heatwave and oppressive humidity, as weather conditions are expected to shift significantly starting Thursday. The Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast a dip of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in day temperatures across the state, easing the prevailing discomfort caused by soaring mercury levels.
According to the MeT office, widespread rainfall is likely to return to Odisha from June 14 onwards, driven by the advancing monsoon. Several districts are expected to receive moderate to heavy showers over the coming days.
In addition, a thunderstorm warning has been issued for the next 72 hours in various parts of the state. Isolated regions may witness heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds and lightning activity. Districts such as Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri have been placed on alert.
Authorities have advised residents in these areas to remain indoors during thunderstorms and avoid venturing into open spaces, especially during lightning activity.
The anticipated rainfall is expected to bring significant relief not only to urban dwellers grappling with high discomfort levels but also to farmers awaiting the monsoon for agricultural activities. The shift in weather is being seen as a welcome development after an extended period of dry, sweltering conditions.
