NCW Unhappy with Police Response in Anubrata Mondal Abusive Language Case

Kolkata, 12 June (H.S.) -

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has expressed dissatisfaction with the response provided by the Birbhum Superintendent of Police in connection with the viral audio clip allegedly featuring suspended Trinamool leader Anubrata Mondal using abusive language. The clip reportedly includes derogatory remarks directed at the mother and wife of the Inspector-in-Charge of Bolpur police station.

Following the circulation of the audio, the NCW sent a letter to the Director General of Police, seeking details of the action taken. In response, the Birbhum SP informed the commission that a case had been registered against Anubrata Mondal based on a complaint lodged by the Bolpur IC, and that the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Bolpur is investigating the matter. The SP further stated that the complainant's statement had been recorded and Mondal had been interrogated.

However, NCW member Archana Majumdar confirmed that the commission is not satisfied with the explanation, raising concerns over the seriousness and sensitivity shown by the authorities.

Meanwhile, in a related development, police have filed an FIR against suspended TMCP leader Bikramjit for allegedly threatening a police officer in the same context. The FIR mentions that the officer's morale and safety were adversely affected by the threats, which were described as an attempt to defame the police and spread misinformation through a deliberately circulated video.

Reacting to the controversy, the BJP has announced statewide protest rallies under the banner of 'Nari Samman Yatra' (Women's Honour March). On June 9, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari is set to lead a rally from Bolpur, followed by another in Nadia’s Kaliganj on June 16. Several other such marches are reportedly being planned across West Bengal, with banners and flex boards already installed in different areas.
