STF Seizes Heroin Worth Over ₹1 Crore in Murshidabad; Two Interstate Drug Peddlers Arrested

Murshidabad, 11 June (H.S.): In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the West Bengal Special Task Force (STF) seized heroin worth over ₹1 crore during a raid in the Shamsherganj area of Murshidabad district. The operation, conducted on Tuesday evening based on a tip-off, led to the arrest of two alleged drug traffickers from Assam and West Bengal.

According to STF officials, the raid took place at a two-storey house in the Sahebnagar locality under Shamsherganj police station limits. During the search, STF personnel recovered 1.5 kilograms of heroin, suspected to have been smuggled in from Assam.

The arrested individuals have been identified as 53-year-old Jalal Uddin Barbhuiya from Silchar, Assam, and 31-year-old Dil Rahman alias Rahul from Sutipara in Murshidabad. STF officials revealed that the house where the raid occurred belongs to Rahman’s in-laws and was being used as a hideout for the contraband.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday afternoon, STF Superintendent of Police and IPS officer Indrajit Basu stated that the operation not only led to a major drug haul but also exposed an active inter-state narcotics network. Both accused had just returned from Silchar and were caught before they could deliver the consignment, Basu added.

A case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Shamsherganj Police Station. Authorities are now pursuing further leads to dismantle the larger network involved in the drug trafficking racket.
