Delhi, 10 June (H.S.): Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, met with Swiss industry leaders in Bern on 9th June 2025 to enhance economic cooperation following the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) between India and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). The discussions focused on synergies between Indian and Swiss enterprises, particularly in innovation, technology transfer, and sustainable manufacturing. Goyal invited Swiss companies to expand in India, highlighting the country's burgeoning market. He assured Indian commitment to a favorable business environment with transparent regulations and strong intellectual property protection. The minister encouraged Swiss firms to view India as a strategic hub for manufacturing and talent.
Subsequent roundtables addressed sectors like Biotech, Pharma, Healthcare, Defence, and Emerging Technologies, showcasing India's scale and innovation potential. Goyal emphasized utilizing the EFTA Desk at Invest India for support and promoting regulatory harmonization. He also met with the Switzerland Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), commending their efforts in reinforcing the India–Switzerland professional ecosystem.
Swiss leaders from various sectors expressed confidence in India as a global economic and innovation powerhouse. They recognized India's strengths—its dynamic market, growing middle class, exceptional talent, and supportive business policies. Many companies showcased interest in joint ventures and local production to cater to Indian and global markets, aligning their innovations with India's development priorities. There was a shared sentiment of strategic partnership, with numerous participants viewing India as a vital player in their global value chains, showcasing readiness to invest in its growth phase.
