Delhi, 10 June (H.S.): PM Narendra Modi highlighted India's transforming technical textiles sector due to government initiatives like the National Technical Textiles Mission and Production Linked Incentive scheme, enhancing domestic manufacturing, fostering innovation, and boosting exports, establishing India as a global leader.
Responding to a post by Union Minister Giriraj Singh on X, PM Modi said:
“India’s technical textiles sector is witnessing rapid growth, driven by key initiatives like the National Technical Textiles Mission and the PLI scheme. These efforts are boosting manufacturing, innovation and exports, positioning India as a global leader, writes Union Minister Shri @girirajsinghbjp.”
Technical textiles in India, once an underdeveloped sector reliant on imports, have become crucial for industrial transformation under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The increased production of PPE during COVID-19 and advancements in specialty fibres for aerospace needs signify this growth. The government has invested Rs 12,000 crore in the National Technical Textiles Mission and the Production Linked Incentive Scheme, promoting innovation and skill development, resulting in substantial funding for projects and engagement of over 2,000 students in courses. Mandatory usage of 73 technical textile items has boosted exports significantly. With a projected market growth from USD 26 billion in 2024 to USD 40-45 billion by 2030 and an annual growth rate of 10%, India's technical textiles sector is increasingly competitive on a global scale.
