Huge quantity of English liquor seized, accused arrested

Guwahati, 10 June (HS): During a joint operation of Basishtha Police of Guwahati Metropolitan and Jorabat Police Station, a truck carrying English liquor manufactured in Meghalaya for sale in Assam to Mizoram has been seized.

Police said on Tuesday that the operation was conducted based on an input about carrying a large quantity of English liquor from Guwahati to Aizawl (Mizoram). During the operation, a truck (AS-28AC- 0703) was seized. A large quantity of English liquor hidden under noodle packets was recovered from the seized truck. Bashisht Police and Jorabat Police jointly conducted an operation and stopped the said truck at Jorabat Naka checking point. The truck was found carrying English liquor of different brands (which are permitted for sale only within the state of Meghalaya) without any legal documents.

86 cans of Kingfisher Strong Beer (24 cans of 500 ml each), 74 cans of McDowells No. 1 Original Liquor (48 bottles of 180 ml each), 40 cans of McDowells No. 1 Original Liquor (24 bottles of 375 ml each), 40 cans of McDowells No. 1 Rum Liquor (48 bottles of 180 ml each), 35 cans of McDowells No. 1 Rum Liquor (24 bottles of 375 ml each), 40 cans of Royal Stag Liquor (24 bottles of 375 ml each), Royal 45 cans of Stag liquor (48 bottles of 180 ml each) and 40 cans of Royal Stag liquor (12 bottles of 750 ml each) were recovered. In this case, the police have arrested the driver Gautam Das (31, Jalukbari, Guwahati). The matter is being investigated. ---------------
