Silchar (Assam), 30 May (HS): Huge quantity of heroin was seized in separate operations conducted by Cachar Police. Four people were also arrested during the operation.
Police said on Friday that Sonai and Silchar police have arrested a total of four people in two separate incidents and recovered a large quantity of suspected heroin as part of the campaign being run against drugs.
Based on reliable information received, a vehicle (AS-11 AB 7330) was stopped in Talugram Part-1, Motinagar Road, Sonai police station area. During the search, 5 soap boxes were recovered from the vehicle, in which a total of 60.02 grams of suspected heroin was found. Ghulam Azad Barbhuiyan (39) has been detained in this case.
In another incident, based on specific information, an e-autorickshaw (AS-11FC5519) was stopped at Aulia, Sonai Road. During the search, three persons travelling in it were caught with a total of 13 soap boxes weighing about 147 grams of suspected heroin. The arrested accused have been identified as Fakhar Uddin Laskar (56, driver), Abdul Majid (35) and Majida Begum (30). The value of the seized heroin has gone up to more than ₹3 crore in the black market.
Further legal action is underway by the police in both these cases. Police have described it as a major success against the drug trade.---------------
