It is noteworthy that the journalism we are seeing today has a long history with it. Pandit Jugal Kishore Shukla's 'Udant Martand' newspaper of Kanpur has an important contribution in the emergence and development of Hindi journalism. The country's first Hindi newspaper Udant Martand was started in Calcutta on 30 May 1826. Its last issue was published on 11 December 1827. In 1976, this closed newspaper completed 150 years. During this period of emergency, it was decided that 30 May be celebrated every year as Journalism Day. This year, Udant Martand has completed 200 years and 50 years of Journalism Day.
