New Delhi, 29th May (H.S.): After experiencing fluctuations throughout the day, the domestic stock market closed strongly today, marking an end to the two-day decline. The trading session started with gains, but following the market's opening, both Sensex and Nifty indices fell into the negative. Throughout the day, a battle ensued between buyers and sellers, resulting in fluctuating stock levels. However, aggressive buying in the last half hour enabled a robust market recovery. The Sensex concluded with a gain of 0.39 percent, while the Nifty rose by 0.33 percent.
Noteworthy buying was observed in the real estate and metal sectors, with strong performances also from banking, IT, automobile, capital goods, consumer durables, healthcare, oil and gas, and tech indices. Conversely, the public sector enterprise and FMCG stocks faced significant selling pressure. The broader market reflected strength, with the BSE midcap index gaining 0.48 percent and the small-cap index rising by 0.39 percent. The overall market uplift resulted in a wealth boost of more than ₹1.75 lakh crore for stock investors, as the market capitalization of BSE-listed companies rose to ₹445.59 lakh crore (provisional) from ₹443.77 lakh crore the previous day.
In today's trading, 4,111 shares were actively traded on the BSE; 2,022 closed with gains, 1,952 declined, and 137 remained unchanged. Similarly, on the NSE, 2,577 shares were traded, with 1,334 closing higher and 1,243 lower. Among the Sensex constituents, 24 out of 30 shares recorded gains while 6 faced losses. In the case of the Nifty, 37 out of 50 shares managed to close in the green, while 13 dropped.
The BSE Sensex opened with strength, starting at 81,591.03 points, and quickly surged to 81,816.89 within the first five minutes before dipping due to selling pressure, finally reaching a low of 81,106.98 points around 1 PM. However, aggressive buying in the late afternoon enabled the index to close up by 320.70 points at 81,633.02. The Nifty opened at 24,825.10 points, spiked to 24,889.70, but faced profit booking, ultimately closing with a gain of 81.15 points at 24,833.60.
Top gainers included IndusInd Bank (2.36%), Sun Pharmaceuticals (2%), and others, while top losers included HDFC Life (-1.08%) and Tata Consumer Products (-1.03%).
