Sitapur,
29 May (HS): A recently constructed water tank for the Jal Jeevan Mission fell
in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday afternoon, according to authorities. The event
occurred in Chunka village in the Mahmudabad district, but no casualties have
been recorded thus far, according to authorities. According to residents, the
tank has been giving water to the hamlet for the past two months and was built
at an estimated cost of Rs 531.50 lakh, local sources claimed.
Its
unexpected fall has sparked indignation among residents, who claim that poor
materials were utilized in construction.
Asha
Maurya, a local BJP MLA from Mehmudabad, stated in a post on X that information
had been received concerning the collapse of a water tank in Mahmudabad's
Chunka hamlet. The appropriate authority
had previously been alerted of the subpar job completed under the Jal Shakti
Mission. Today's events were the consequence of work carelessness caused by unholy
nexus between water corporation executives and contractors. Please take stern disciplinary action against
the lax officials and contractors, she said.
Angry
locals raised similar concerns and demanded responsibility. The municipal authority was yet to publish an
official statement in this respect. This is the second occurrence in Sitapur
district in a year involving the collapse of a Jal Jeevan Mission water
tank. Last year, a tank in Chitahala
village, Maholi constituency, fell during a trial run, prompting similar claims
of poor construction and neglect.
