Chennai, 29 May (H.S.) : A devastating accident occurred in Chengalpattu district when a cement mixing lorry lost control and ploughed into a group of commuters waiting at a bus stop on the GST Road near Pulipakkam. The incident resulted in one person being killed on the spot, while over ten others sustained serious injuries.
The deceased has been identified as Kumar, a 60-year-old cook from Pulipakkam, who was waiting at the bus stop to catch a bus to Tambaram for work. The lorry, which was traveling from Maduranthakam, went out of control after crossing Chengalpattu and rammed into people standing at the roadside bus stop. Eyewitnesses claim the vehicle did not stop after the initial impact and proceeded to crash into the rear of a Chengalpattu-Tambaram city bus ahead.
The injured, including passengers on the city bus and its conductor, were rushed to Chengalpattu government hospital for treatment. The driver of the cement mixer fled the scene following the accident, and the police have launched a manhunt to locate and apprehend the driver.
The accident caused significant disruption to morning traffic on the Tiruchy-Chennai National Highway between Chengalpattu and Pulipakkam, as authorities worked to restore normalcy. The incident highlights the importance of road safety and the need for drivers to exercise caution while driving.
