Hapur,
29 May (HS): A member and sniper of the infamous Lawrence Bishnoi gang was
killed in a police confrontation in Uttar Pradesh during wee hours. The dead was identified as Naveen Kumar, who
was sought in a number of instances, including murder and abduction. The encounter occurred during a combined
operation between the Special Task Force's Noida Unit and the Delhi Police's
Special Cell to target criminals in Hapur's Kotwali police station area. “Kumar
had major gunshot wounds and was transported to a hospital, where doctors
proclaimed him dead. Kumar, who came
from Loni in Ghaziabad area, was an active sharpshooter of the Lawrence Bishnoi
gang and had worked closely with Hashim Baba, another high-ranking gang member,”
Amitabh Yash, ADGP (STF), remarked.
Kumar
faces up to 20 charges in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, including murder, attempted
murder, abduction, robbery, and violations of the Maharashtra Control of
Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).. He had been found guilty in two cases by Delhi
courts. Earlier in the day, Bhupendra
Gwalah, a wanted criminal, was shot and injured during an encounter with Jhansi
police. Gwalah was observed riding a
motorbike as the cops were performing a check.
When he noticed the cops, he fired fire and fled into the forests, said
Arvind Kumar, Superintendent of cops (SP) of Rural Jhansi.
