Chennai, 29 May (H.S.) : The Chennai Police's Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has arrested a man in connection with a massive government job scam worth Rs. 165 crore. The accused allegedly promised jobs in various government departments to numerous candidates, collecting huge sums of money from them in the process.
The scam came to light after several victims approached the police, complaining that they had been cheated out of their money. The police investigation revealed that the accused had been running the scam for several years, duping hundreds of people.
The arrested individual is believed to have operated a network of agents who would approach potential victims and promise them government jobs in exchange for hefty sums of money. The accused would then issue fake appointment letters and other documents to convince the victims of the legitimacy of the job offers.
The police are now working to identify other individuals involved in the scam and recover the money collected from the victims. The case highlights the need for vigilance and caution when dealing with unscrupulous individuals who promise easy jobs or other benefits in exchange for money.
