New Delhi, May 29(HS): The central government has implemented stock limits on wheat for wholesalers and retailers to prevent hoarding and stabilize prices in the market. The stock limit on wheat for wholesalers, retailers, traders, stockists, and processors will remain in effect until March 31, 2026.

The Ministry of Food issued an order on May 27 regarding licensing requirements for specified food items, stock limits, and the removal of movement restrictions, which will apply to all states and union territories until March 31, 2026. Under this order, specific quantities have been set for each category, and they have been asked to dispose of more than the specified limit of wheat within the next 15 days. According to the order, wholesalers can now hold 3,000 metric tons of wheat, while the stock limit for retailers is set at 10 metric tons.

As per the order issued by the Ministry, all wheat storage entities are required to provide stock information every Friday on the wheat stock portal https://evegoils.nic.in/wsp/login, which will eventually be transferred to https://foodstock.dfpd.gov.in. It is necessary to declare the status of wheat stocks. If any entity is found not registered on the portal or found to be violating the stock limit, appropriate punitive action will be taken against it under Sections 6 and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.
