Sivasagar (Assam), 29 May (HS): The historic decision has been taken by the Assam government cabinet amid many important decisions from roads to sports. The government has announced that the Sarusajai Stadium will now be named Arjuna Bhogeswar Barua Sports Complex.
Arjuna Award winner and Northeast India's first Asian Games gold medalist Bhogeswar Barua is very happy with this decision. By winning the gold medal in the 1966 Bangkok Asian Games, he not only made India but especially the Northeast proud.
Bhogeswar Barua, who is resting at his residence in Sivasagar due to health reasons, reacting to this said, I am happy that the stadium was named after me, but just naming it will not do anything. The stadium should be used properly, a generation of new players should be prepared. I will talk to the government to ensure that it is properly maintained and operated. There is also enthusiasm among sports lovers due to naming the stadium after the pride of the Northeast, son of Shivsagar and inspiration in the sports world of the country, Arjun Bhogeshwar Barua.
