New Delhi, May 28 (H.S.): In April 2024, the growth rate of industrial production in the country decreased to 2.7 percent, down from 5.2 percent in the same month the previous year, primarily due to weak performance in manufacturing, mining, and electricity sectors, as reported by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. The National Statistical Office (NSO) revised the March growth rate to 3.9 percent, up from the earlier estimate of 3 percent. Manufacturing production growth slipped to 3.4 percent from 4.2 percent year-on-year, while mining experienced a decline of 0.2 percent, in contrast to the 6.8 percent increase observed last year.
Electricity production growth also slowed to 1 percent from 10.2 percent a year earlier. The ministry announced that the quick estimate of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) will now be released on the 28th of each month, with subsequent revisions made according to their policy, based on data from various production agencies.
