28 May (HS): A meeting was held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Rajesh

Verma, Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Backward Classes State Commission. The

problems being faced in the scholarship and fee reimbursement schemes were

discussed in the meeting. During the meeting, Chairman Rajesh Verma, while

giving instructions to make the scholarship and fee reimbursement schemes more

effective, said that a help desk center should be established to help the

students so that they can get all the information related to the scholarship

easily. Along with this, he also directed that the cut-off marks set for

scholarship and fee reimbursement should be abolished and like the Scheduled

Castes and Tribes, all the backward class students should be given the benefit

of scholarship and fee reimbursement.

It

was informed in the meeting that in the financial year 2024-25, 1011871

applications were received for pre-matric scholarship class 9 and 10, out of

which 862790 students were benefited and 1310 applications were rejected due to

various reasons. 965322 applications were received for post-matric scholarship

/ fee reimbursement, out of which 814817 students were benefited and 37431

applications were rejected. 1920458 applications were received from other

post-matric classes, out of which 1544887 students got scholarship while 31859

​​students were deprived due to lack of budget.

Joint

Director, Backward Classes Welfare Department informed that scholarship is

distributed under Fund Limited Scheme; hence scholarship distribution is

possible only as per the available funds. He also informed that a budget of

about Rs. 1 crore has been released to the Directorate for publicity of schemes

related to backward classes, on which action is in progress. Joint Secretary

Sanjay Kumar Dubey from the side of Principal Secretary Backward Classes

Welfare Department, Joint Director Vikas Sharma from the side of Director

Backward Classes Welfare Department and Secretary of the Commission Manoj Kumar

Sagar were present in the meeting.
