Chennai, 28 May (H.S.) : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has expressed gratitude to the state police and judiciary for delivering speedy justice in the Anna University sexual assault case. A Mahila court in Chennai found the accused, Gnanasekaran, guilty on multiple charges, including rape. The court's verdict was delivered on May 28, 2025.

In a post on social media platform 'X', Stalin praised the investigating officers, government prosecutors, and the honorable court for concluding the case within five months. Our police department has swiftly conducted the trial against the injustice done to the Chennai student and delivered justice within just five months, Stalin said. He emphasized the state’s commitment to maintaining law and order, stating that no crime should occur, and if it does, no culprit should escape.

The Chief Minister also took a swipe at the opposition parties, accusing them of running a den of crimes during their tenure and now resorting to slander and cheap politics. Stalin assured that his government would always uphold the rule of law and ensure the safety of women. The sentence for Gnanasekaran will be pronounced on June.

Stalin had earlier clarified that the accused was a DMK supporter, not a party member, despite pictures surfacing of him with some DMK functionaries. The incident had sparked controversy, with opposition parties like AIADMK and BJP raising the issue in the assembly. Stalin had assured a speedy trial and justice in the case on the floor of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.
