New Delhi, May 27 (HS): The South-West District Police successfully apprehended 88 Bangladeshi nationals living illegally in India during a 10-day verification campaign involving multiple police stations. None of the detainees had valid Indian citizenship documents, and photocopies of Bangladeshi identity cards were found with them. DCP Surendra Chaudhary stated that the campaign was conducted following special directives from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Teams from various police stations, including Sarojini Nagar, Kishangarh, Safdarjung Enclave, Vasant Kunj South, Kapashera, Sagar Pur, ATS, Delhi Cantt, Palam Village, and Vasant Kunj North, were tasked with verifying identities based on secret information. Through the assistance of informants, the illegal immigrants were identified and taken into custody when they failed to provide valid documents. During interrogation, they confessed to living illegally in India for several years. The operation has led to the arrest of a total of 142 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants so far. This initiative not only enhances law and order but also builds public confidence in the police force, with specific numbers of arrests reported from each involved police station. Deportation processes have commenced, assisted by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).
