Muzaffarnagar, 27 May (HS): A professor at the government-aided Chhotu
Ram Degree College was suspended on Tuesday following a sexual harassment claim
by a student, according to a university official. On May 24, a BSc student accused Dushyant
Kumar, a lecturer at the college's Plant Pathology Department, of sexual
harassment. Sharad Kumar, the college's management secretary, informed
reporters that Kumar had been suspended during an emergency meeting. He stated
that a subcommittee will look into the event. Chief Judicial Magistrate Kavita
Agrawal refused bail to Kumar, who is in police custody, on Monday. Kumar was
detained on May 24 for sexually harassing a pupil, according to KC Mori, the
prosecuting officer.
Police have recently added two more
sections against him: Section 64 (rape) and Section 62 (attempt to commit
certain crimes). Kumar was first charged with sexual harassment under BNS
sections 75, 352 (intentional insult with intent to incite breach of peace),
and 351 (criminal intimidation).
