Cachar (Assam), 26 May (HS): In a major action on drug smuggling, security forces arrested a person with 684 grams of heroin on Tuesday.

Based on special intelligence, Cachar Police, ARFIU and 38 Assam Rifles conducted a joint operation against illegal drug smuggling in Mohankhal of Kachudaram police station area. One person has been arrested during this operation. The arrested person has been identified as Mangkholum Hmar (30).

During a thorough search, the police team recovered suspected heroin kept in 56 soap boxes from his possession. The total weight of the recovered substance is 684 grams. Apart from this, a factory-made .32 pistol and 19 live cartridges have also been recovered from him.

The estimated price of the seized psychotropic material in the black market is said to be around ₹3.5 crore. The seizure was carried out in a lawful manner in the presence of independent witnesses.

The substance recovered from the drug detection kit was found to be heroin. Further investigation is underway in this case.---------------
