Imphal, 27 May (HS): Extensive combing operations and cordon and search operations are being conducted in the state based on intelligence inputs to arrest the accused involved in extortion in Manipur. In this regard, security forces have arrested five outfits of different rebel group in three separate operations.

Police PRO said on Tuesday that in the first operation, two rebels of KCP (PWG) outfit were arrested from Samaram Lamkhai, NH-102 of Thoubal district under Khongjong police station area. The arrested accused have been identified as Furitshabam Modhulan Singh alias Ashokkumar (43), resident of Salungpham Mayai Laikai, Thoubal district and Gurumayum Basanta Sharma alias Munda alias Chingkhai (41), resident of Singjamei Bamon Laikai Nahabam, Imphal East. Both of them were involved in extortion activities. Two demand letters of KCP (PWG), two mobile phones and three SIM cards were recovered from their possession.

The second action was carried out at Moirenghthel village (opposite BP No. 89) under Tengnoupal police station area, where security forces arrested two PLA rebels. The arrested accused have been identified as Maisnam Surjeet Singh (29), resident of Singjamei, Chingmathak Laikai, Imphal West and Konthoujam Dijen Meitei (20), resident of Yambem Makha Laikai, Yairipok, Andro, Imphal East district.

In the third action, a KYKL (Sorepa) outfit, Mayanglambam Premkumar alias Tingba Meitei (35), resident of Kakching Khunou Umathel Makha Laikai, Kakching district was arrested from Chajing Khunou under Suganu police station area. A mobile handset was recovered from him.

This action by the security forces is being considered as a strong message against insurgency and extortion in the state.---------------
