New Delhi, May 26 (HS): A delegation of American officials may visit India soon to advance discussions on a proposed interim trade agreement. This visit is crucial, as both nations aim to reach an agreement before July 9. India seeks a full waiver on the 26 percent reciprocal tariff imposed on its domestic goods. Reports indicate that the American team is expected to engage in these negotiations, which are progressing swiftly. India's chief negotiator, Special Secretary Rajesh Aggarwal, recently visited Washington to discuss the agreement with his U.S. counterpart. Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal was also in Washington last week to enhance trade talks, meeting U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Luttnick twice. An additional 26 percent reciprocal tariff on Indian goods, imposed in April 2025, was suspended for 90 days, while a 10 percent baseline tariff remains.
