Noida, 26 May (HS): A 28-year-old policeman who was part of a
Noida police squad attempting to apprehend a wanted criminal in Ghaziabad was
fatally shot by his companions, officials said Monday. The incident occurred
late Sunday night in Masoorie's Nahal village, when a squad stormed a spot in
search of Qadir, who was sought in a robbery case reported at Noida's Phase-III
Police Station.
When the crew was bringing Qadir away, his companions hiding
behind a panchayat bhavan fired gunshots, pummeled them with stones, and
attacked them with dangerous weapons, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police
(Rural) Surendra Nath Tiwari. In the attack, Constable Saurabh Kumar Deshwal
was shot in the head. He was transported
to Yashoda Hospital, where medics pronounced him dead, according to the DCP.
The 2016 batch policeman was from Shamli and worked at Phase-III
Police Station. His death has left the police department with a significant
loss, according to a spokeswoman for the Gautam Buddha Nagar Commissionerate. Sub-inspectors Sachin Rathi, Udit Singh,
Sumit, and Nikhil were hurt in the attack, he stated.
Qadir, who escaped during the disturbance, was apprehended and
is presently in detention. According to the spokesman, he has 16 criminal charges against
him and is Thana Masoori's history-sheeter. Police are looking for Adil,
Qadir's brother, and numerous other suspects in the incident.
