Bhubaneswar, 26 May (H.S.): In a significant move to enhance cybercrime control and investigation, the Odisha government is set to establish a state-of-the-art Cyber Crime Command Centre. The announcement was made by Odisha Director General of Police (DGP), Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, during the inauguration of a dedicated workshop on cybercrime investigation and intelligence.
The workshop, held at the Cyber Complex in Bhubaneswar, aimed to train police officers on advanced techniques to tackle the rising menace of cybercrime. DGP Khurania formally inaugurated the session, stressing the importance of building technical capacity across all levels of law enforcement.
Speaking at the event, the DGP stated that similar workshops will soon be organized at the range and district levels across the state, enabling participation from constables to senior officers. These training sessions will equip officers with the knowledge and tools necessary for effective cybercrime investigation and response.
Highlighting the evolving nature of cyber threats, Khurania noted that continuous technical training and skill enhancement are essential for the police to counter increasingly sophisticated and invisible cybercriminals. He added that the government is prioritizing district-level capacity-building initiatives through a series of workshops statewide.
With the advancement of technology, cybercrimes such as online investment fraud, identity theft, digital extortion, and exploitation of children and women are on the rise. To combat these challenges, the Odisha Police has already launched a large-scale awareness and enforcement campaign.
In a major boost to infrastructure, the state government has approved the establishment of 20 new cyber and economic offences police stations. DGP Khurania expressed confidence that these new units will play a critical role in cybercrime prevention and investigation.
The Odisha Cyber Command Centre, to be set up in Bhubaneswar, will act as a central hub for monitoring, detecting, and responding to cyber incidents, while also offering prompt assistance to victims of cyber offences.
During the workshop, Dr. Rakshit Tandon, a renowned cyber expert, conducted training for officers from various districts. The event began with a welcome address by Crime Branch Chief Binaytosh Mishra, and the sessions were coordinated by IG Sarthak Sarangi. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by DIG (STF) Pinak Mishra.
