New Delhi, May 26 (HS): Today, the stock market in India exhibited a consistently positive trend, bolstered by the country's economy securing the fourth position globally and the RBI's substantial dividend payment. The mood was further enhanced by the U.S. extending the deadline for tariffs on the European Union, positively impacting global market sentiment. Consequently, the domestic stock market had a strong closing as trading commenced for the week, with the Nifty index surpassing the 25,000 points mark again. The Sensex increased by 0.56 percent, while the Nifty rose by 0.60 percent. Key sectors such as IT, automobile, and FMCG witnessed significant buying activity, alongside strong performances in banking, capital goods, consumer durables, healthcare, metals, oil and gas, public sector enterprises, and tech indices.

The broader market also thrived, with the BSE midcap index climbing 0.56 percent and the small-cap index gaining 0.48 percent. The day's robust performances led to an increment of over 2.85 trillion rupees in investors' wealth, raising the market capitalization of BSE-listed companies to a provisional 444.81 lakh crore rupees, up from last week’s figure of 441.96 lakh crore rupees. A total of 4,267 shares were actively traded on the BSE, with 2,298 shares recording gains, while the NSE saw trading in 2,605 shares, with 1,604 ending in profit.

The Sensex began the day at 81,928.95 points, gaining 207.87 points, and witnessed an initial surge in buying due to aggressive purchases from foreign portfolio investors, pushing the index to 82,492.24 points. However, profit-taking caused fluctuations, and the index eventually closed the day at 82,176.45 points, up by 455.37 points. Similarly, the Nifty opened at 24,919.35 points, reaching 25,079.20 points before experiencing profit-taking, ultimately closing at 25,001.15 points with a gain of 148 points. Top gainers included Bajaj Auto and JSW Steel, while the biggest losers included Eternal and Kotak Mahindra, reflecting the day’s market dynamics.
