Shillong, 26 May (HS): Acting on specific information, vigilant soldiers of Adhoc-II Megh Battalion of BSF Meghalaya foiled several smuggling attempts near the international border in East Khasi Hills district. During this, they freed 62 cattle from the clutches of smugglers, whose value is estimated to be more than ₹11 lakh.
According to BSF, these cattle were being taken for smuggling to Bangladesh. The soldiers foiled this attempt by taking timely action. The seized cattle have been handed over to the concerned departments for further action.
BSF has vowed to further tighten patrolling and surveillance to prevent smuggling in border areas.--------------
