22 Bangladeshis held from NRL, AJYCP slams authorities

Golaghat (Assam), 26 May (HS): Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP) has strongly reacted to the arrest of 22 Bangladeshi workers from the historic Numaligarh refinery. The organization said that foreign nationals are now being employed in this refinery built with the sacrifice of the martyrs of the Assam Movement, which is highly condemnable.

AJYCP Central Vice President Vipul Bora said that outside companies had brought Bangladeshis from Guwahati and Dhubri and employed them here. 22 Bangladeshi nationals were arrested from the refinery by conducting a raid by the Golaghat police.

The organization raised the question that the refinery administration has not yet made public the information about which companies employed these foreigners. The vice president criticized the silence of the refinery management and said that it is unacceptable to hire outsiders by bypassing local youth at low salaries.

AJYCP also feared that there may be more Bangladeshis working in the refinery. In a press conference held on Monday at the office of the Bokakhat district committee of the organization, the vice president warned that if the refinery administration does not make public the complete information of the outside companies soon, the organization will launch a fierce agitation.
