Guwahati, 27 February (HS): A police officer killed in a horrific road accident in the Lalmati area of Guwahati. According to information received on Thursday, a speeding Swift car (AS-01AY-9101) hit a scooty rider, due to which the scooty was completely damaged and the driver killed on the spot.

The deceased police officer has been identified as Birinchi Kumar Das, who was posted at Ghagdapar police station and was currently on a month's leave.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when the scooty riders were crossing the national highway. After the collision, the Swift car went out of control and hit the divider, but the driver fled from the spot.

Local people say that accidents often happen at this place. The police have registered a case and started investigation and the search for the absconding car driver is on.
