Tel Aviv, 27 February (HS): Amid ceasefire and hostage exchange between Hamas and Israel, clouds of unrest have started hovering over the Gaza Strip. Fear of conflict breaking out again in Gaza Strip has increased with Israel's declaration that it will not go out of the Philadelphi corridor under any circumstances. Hamas has appointed new commanders for its armed wing.
A senior Israeli official said on Thursday that Israel will not leave the Philadelphi corridor in Gaza Strip for the time being. This corridor is till the southern border of Gaza with Egypt. Its total length is 14 kilometers. Local residents call it Salah al-Din axis. Amid Israel's declaration that it will not go out of the Philadelphi corridor under any circumstances, terrorist organization Hamas has also started strengthening its strategic capability.
According to The Jerusalem Post, an Israeli official said on Thursday that Hamas boys would not be allowed to roam around with pickup trucks and guns near the border. Reports say that Hamas probably had an idea of this. That is why it has appointed new commanders for its armed wing. Not only this, it has also started repairing its underground tunnel network.
According to a report in the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday, Arab officials have said that Hamas has established a separate wing to detect and counter any Israeli infiltration in the Gaza Strip. It has appointed new commanders in the armed wing. The current situation may hit the efforts to implement the second phase of the ceasefire.
