Chennai, 26 February (H.S.) : A coordinated effort by health department officials and police in Tamil Nadu has led to the dismantling of a fetus sex determination racket, resulting in the arrest of six individuals, including a government doctor and a nurse.
Krishnagiri district collector S Dinesh Kumar received information about touts who were helping pregnant women determine the sex of their fetuses. I put together a health department team that includes city health officer (CHO) Dr G Ramesh Kumar and Kelamangalam block medical officer Dr C Rajesh Kumar, the collector said.
The racket, which involved a network of touts and medical professionals, was exposed through a sting operation initiated by Krishnagiri District Collector S Dinesh Kumar. The operation revealed that pregnant women were being charged Rs 15,000 for illegal sex determination services.
The arrested individuals include Dr Muthamil, a 45-year-old PHC doctor, Kalaimani, a 48-year-old nurse, and four touts. The suspects have been remanded in judicial custody and are currently lodged in the Salem Central Prison.
The crackdown serves as a warning to those engaging in illegal activities that breach government regulations, with authorities vowing to take severe action against perpetrators.
