Delhi, 26 February (H.S.): The Delhi unit of Congress on Wednesday called for the formation of the Public Accounts Committee soon so that the CAG report on the previous AAP government's excise policy can be investigated, and demanded that the scope of the probe be widened to include the alleged involvement of BJP leaders in the matter.

On the CAG report, State Congress President Devendra Yadav and senior leader Sandeep Dixit held a press conference at the party headquarters on Wednesday. Yadav said that Delhi Congress itself had given a complaint related to the liquor policy to the investigating agencies. There was also evidence of BJP's involvement in it. The question arises that why all 14 reports related to the liquor policy were not presented in the Assembly. Usually the opposition leader chairs the PAC but in Delhi the government itself leads. Our demand is that the reports should be brought for public discussion.

Sandeep Dixit said that the CAG report states that the objective of the liquor policy changed repeatedly. Earlier, 70 organizations had a participation in it, which was reduced to 14. The liquor policy was made due to the relations and interests between the government and the contractors. It was clear that the government legalized tax evasion of 30 to 40 percent by not collecting excise duty after a level in liquor.

The newly elected BJP government of Delhi presented a CAG report in the Assembly on Tuesday, which the Speaker of the Assembly announced to be sent to the PAC for investigation. The report states that in the year 2020-21, the then Arvind Kejriwal government ignored the rules in making the excise policy to benefit the liquor contractors, causing a loss of more than two thousand crore rupees to the government treasury.
