New Delhi, 25 February (HS): The Supreme Court quashed the expulsion order of Bihar's RJD leader Sunil Kumar Singh from the Legislative Council. The bench headed by Justice Suryakant also quashed the Election Commission's notification for the vacant seat of the Legislative Council.

The Supreme Court termed Sunil Kumar Singh's behavior as inappropriate and warned him not to do so in future. The court said that Sunil Kumar Singh's behavior was inappropriate but the order to expel him from the Legislative Council is an excess. The court had reserved the decision while hearing Sunil Kumar Singh's petition on January 29.

The Supreme Court had issued a notice to the Bihar Legislative Council Office and the Election Commission on 30 August 2024. Actually, MLA Sunil Singh was accused of allegedly using derogatory words against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The Ethics Committee of the Legislative Council, considering these allegations in July 2024, recommended the expulsion of Sunil Singh from the Legislative Council. After that Sunil Singh's membership was cancelled.
