Dhaka, 25 February (HS): Bangladesh Information Adviser Nahid Islam resigned from the cabinet. Nahid Islam, a prominent leader of the July uprising, confirmed his decision to separate from the interim government this afternoon.

According to The Daily Star newspaper, Nahid, a prominent leader of the July uprising that overthrew the Awami League regime, held the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology. Nahid may announce his political party by holding a rally at Manik Mia Avenue in Dhaka on February 28.

Other information media said that the youth led by Nahid Islam started a student movement against reservation in public sector jobs in 2024. This movement turned into a national uprising in no time. This uprising forced the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to leave power and take refuge in India.

Nahid Islam will be the convener of his new party. The interim government of Bangladesh is led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus. Yunus has indicated that parliamentary elections can be held in the country by the end of 2025. Many political analysts of Bangladesh believe that Nahid is young. He can give a tough challenge to the traditional political parties of the country in the elections.
