Chennai, 24 February (H.S.) : The Tamil Nadu government has been criticized by BJP state president K Annamalai for failing to effectively utilize funds allocated for road infrastructure development. Despite receiving ₹3,000 crore, the government has not made significant progress in improving the state's roads.
Tamil Nadu has established the Tamil Nadu Road Infrastructure Development Corporation (TNRIDC) to oversee road development projects. The corporation has undertaken several notable projects, including the Oragadam Industrial Corridor Project, Madurai Ring Road Project, and Chennai Peripheral Ring Road Project.
On social media post X handle the BJP Chief said, The state government has established the Tamil Nadu Urban Road Infrastructure Fund (TURIF) to finance urban road infrastructure projects. In 2022-23, the fund received ₹648.81 crore from the government and disbursed ₹714.37 crore to urban local bodies as grants.
Annamalai's criticism highlights the need for effective utilization of funds and efficient implementation of road infrastructure projects in Tamil Nadu. The state government must prioritize transparency and accountability to ensure that allocated funds are used optimally to improve the state's road network.
