NEW DELHI, 24 February (H.S.) : After continuous defeats,
Congress has finally started considering a plan to create a strong election
management system. Congress is now thinking to pass the baton to the new
generation, a big changes is awaiting.
AK Antony, Ambika Soni,
Jairam Ramesh, Mukul Wasnik and Anand Sharma are being removed due to their
increasing age. Antony, 84, has been inactive and away from politics since
leaving Delhi in 2022. His son Anil's joining BJP also became a cause of
embarrassment for him. However, Ambika Soni has remained active even at the age
of 82. She played an important role in the recently concluded Jammu and Kashmir
Assembly elections. It is a different matter that the poor performance of
Congress in Jammu region was blamed on the wrong selection of party candidates.
Like Antony, Ambika Soni is also considered close to Sonia Gandhi. Ambika had
tremendous influence in the ‘Sonia era’ from 1998 to 2022. Many leaders like
Kamal Nath, Salman Khurshid, Kumari Shailaja and Pawan Bansal were considered
to be from the Sonia camp. According to sources, within the last few days, 3
senior leaders Ramesh Chennithala, Randeep Surjewala and Kumari Shailaja have
submitted their resignations from the post of general secretaries to the high
command. They are expecting to be given an important role in their states
Kerala and Haryana.
The removal of Rajeev
Shukla from the post of General Secretary has seen surprise and some
disappointment within the party. Rajiv, a journalist turned politician and then
cricket administrator, is a person who has the ability to adapt himself to
every leadership of the party. Some Congress leaders believe that Shukla may
soon make a big comeback and occupy some prestigious post. It is believed that
he has the patronage of Priyanka Gandhi and the Chief Minister of Himachal
Pradesh.
Jairam Ramesh will also
bid farewell. Jairam Ramesh, head of the communication department of AICC, is
being considered for the post of General Secretary of Congress Parliamentary
Party (CPP). Presently Sonia Gandhi is the chairperson of CPP. The main
responsibility of setting the positive narrative lies with the communication
department. The Congress leadership feels that in the recently held assembly
elections in Delhi, Maharashtra and Haryana, Jairam Ramesh failed to set a
narrative that would have helped in the party's victory. Which would be helpful
in the victory of the party. It is also believed within the party that due to
the inefficiency of the communication department, 'Brand Rahul Gandhi' could
not be presented properly after the general elections, which caused huge damage
to the image of the Leader of Opposition. Apart from this, the long-running
tussle between Jairam Ramesh's media committee chairman Pawan Kheda and social
media head Supriya Shrinet is also not hidden from anyone in the party. In
fact, both Kheda and Shrinet are considering themselves to be the frontrunners
in the race for the post of General Secretary of Communications as the
successor of Jairam Ramesh. According to party sources, the baton may pass to
Priyanka Gandhi.
