Guwahati, 23 February (HS): Several important resolutions adopted in the Assam cabinet meeting held on Sunday. The term of the Sixth Assam Finance Commission has been extended till March 31, 2026. Apart from this, the cabinet has approved the amendment in the Biocatalogy Policy.

After the cabinet meeting at Lokseva Bhavan in the capital Dispur, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma gave detailed information about the decisions of the cabinet meeting in a press conference. Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said that the term of the Sixth Assam Finance Commission has been extended till March 31, 2026. ₹55 crore has been sanctioned for the development of infrastructure in Dibrugarh and Sivasagar districts. ₹157 crore has been sanctioned for the flyover at Amolapatti in Dibrugarh. The cabinet approved amendments to the Biotechnology Policy. He said that textile and apparel policies will be adopted in the textile industry to increase investment possibilities. Registrars of medical colleges will be given loans to buy cars. Under this, they will be able to buy cars up to ₹15 lakh. Keeping in mind the aspect of medical education, the government has approved the expenses for attending two national level seminars. The Chief Minister said that Union Minister S Jaishankar is reaching Assam today with the Ambassadors of the 50 countries. Jaishankar and the Ambassadors are staying overnight in Kaziranga and will leave for Guwahati on Monday morning after visiting Kaziranga by jeep safari.

The Chief Minister said that in the cabinet meeting, approval was given to sign MoUs worth ₹1,22,000 crore. This approval is for signing 214 MoUs. MoUs will be signed in four phases. ₹15,911 crore will be distributed for MoUs at the district level. Disinvestment of up to ₹50 crore will be done at the district level.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Dr Sarma made several remarks on the 'Jhumiur Binnandini' program. The program will start at 5.30 pm on February 24. The general public will have to enter at 3.30 pm to watch the Jhumur ceremony at the Sorusajai Stadium. The Chief Minister will address the Jhumur program. After this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address. After this, Jhumur dance performance will be done. After this program, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will stay for 45 minutes at the Advantage Assam 2.0 venue organized at Khanapara. Here the Prime Minister will inaugurate an exhibition and also inspect the stalls set up there. The Chief Minister said that 350 guests of Advantage Assam will also watch Jhumur dance. Jhumur will be held at Sorusajai Stadium and arrangements will be made to watch it in tea garden areas. LED screens will be installed in 800 gardens across the state to watch Jhumur dance. People of Guwahati will be able to watch the final rehearsal of Jhumur dance today without a ticket.
