Jammu, 22 February (H.S.): In a major breakthrough, Police in Jammu West Sub-division recovered stolen items worth Rs 37 lakh in multiple theft cases, leading to the arrest of several accused.

Addressing media persons here at Police Station Janipur, SP Jammu North, Vivek Shekhar said, in one of the cases, a jeweller hired a maid through an online agency, who later stole valuables, including gold jewellery, mobile phones, and a laptop, in his absence.

He said the theft was reported at Janipur Police Station under FIR number 22/2025.

Acting swiftly, the police officer said, the police tracked and arrested the house help from Assam, recovering all stolen items from the possesion.

Similarly, he said Police in Bakshi Nagar area, under FIR number 17/2025, recovered 175 grams of gold, Rs 2 lakh in cash, and a toka (sharp-edged weapon) from an accused.

The recovered valuables, worth Rs 20 lakh, were restored to the owner through the court, he said.

The police officer added that on February 20, one Shahzad Ahmad reported the theft of his Bullet motorcycle at Janipur Police Station.

Probing this case, he said, the police swiftly arrested the accused, Dheeraj Singh, a habitual offender with 25 FIRs registered against him.

In another success, he said, Police in Bakshi Nagar area cracked theft cases under FIR numbers 3/2025 and 10/2025, arresting accused Sadam Hussain, Zia Farooq, and Sahil Imtiaz.

The team, led by SHO Bakshi Nagar, recovered stolen mobile phones, gold items, two scooties, and an electric auto-rickshaw from the possession of the accused, he said.

Meanwhile, the SP North Jammu urged the public to report any suspicious activity to help prevent crimes.

He also requested business associations and local committees to install CCTVs and appoint watchmen for enhanced security.
