Cultural Jihad or Beauty Pageant? VHP Opposes Miss World in Sacred Telangana Sites

Hyderabad, 2 February (H.S.): The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), a prominent Hindu organization, has strongly opposed the decision of the Telangana government to organize the Miss World competition in sacred places like Ramappa Temple, Yadagirigutta, and Ananthagiri Hills.

The VHP has termed this move as 'cultural jihad' and demanded an immediate withdrawal of the decision. According to the VHP, organizing an event that they consider to be obscene and against their religious beliefs at holy places is highly disrespectful and will not be tolerated by society. They see this as an attempt to tarnish the cultural identity of the state.

Meanwhile, the Telangana government hopes to put their state on the global tourism map and showcase its heritage and attractions through this pageant. The opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the grand finale, will be held in Hyderabad while other destinations such as Ramappa Temple, Yadagirigutta, Kawal Tiger Reserve, and Amrabad Tiger Reserve will also be promoted. With participants from 140 countries attending the month-long event, it is expected to bring attention to regional cuisine and textiles while promoting Hyderabad's brand identity.

However, the VHP remains firm in their opposition and sees this as a disrespect to their cultural values and beliefs. The Miss World pageant is set to take place between May 4th and May 31st.
