Kolkata, 21 February (H.S.): Former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly narrowly escaped injury after his convoy met with a road accident on Thursday morning. The incident took place while Ganguly was on his way to attend an event at Bardhaman University. Fortunately, Ganguly and everyone traveling with him emerged unharmed from the mishap.
The accident occurred in the Dadpur area of Hooghly district on the Durgapur Expressway amid light rainfall. A truck in front of Ganguly's convoy made a sudden stop, prompting his driver to apply the brakes just in time. However, two vehicles following his car collided slightly due to the sudden halt.
According to the Dadpur Police Station, Ganguly’s car remained undamaged, and neither he nor his team sustained any injuries. The two vehicles that collided suffered minor damages, but all drivers were reported safe.
Despite the incident, Ganguly proceeded with his scheduled engagements. He reached the Gulabbagh Auditorium at Bardhaman University, where he interacted with students and answered their questions. Later, he also inspected the Mohan Bagan Ground of the university.
During a separate ceremony at Bardhaman’s Radharani Stadium, Ganguly was honored by the Bardhaman Sports Association. Speaking at the event, Ganguly expressed his happiness at visiting Bardhaman, stating, I am delighted to be here today. The Bardhaman Sports Association has been collaborating with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) for the last 50 years. Many talented players have emerged from this region, and opportunities will continue to be provided to nurture future talents.
The event was also attended by District Magistrate Ayesha Rani A., District Council Chairman Shyamaprasanna Lohar, Vice-Chairperson Gargi Naha, Superintendent of Police Sayak Das, and other officials from the district sports association.
News of Ganguly’s safety brought relief to his fans, who had been concerned after learning about the accident.
