New Delhi, February 21 (HS): Special Judge Kaveri Baweja of Rouse Avenue Court, Delhi has today reserved the decision on the sentence of former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar, who was convicted in the Saraswati Vihar case related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. After hearing the arguments of all the parties, she ordered to pronounce the verdict on February 25. CBI and the complainant have demanded death penalty for Sajjan Kumar.
The court had convicted Sajjan Kumar in this case on February 12. This case is of November 1, 1984. On this day, Sardar Jaswant Singh and Sardar Tarun Deep Singh were burnt to death in Raj Nagar, West Delhi.
According to the complainants, this mob was led by Sajjan Kumar who was then a Congress MP from Outer Delhi Lok Sabha seat. Based on the affidavit given by the complainant before the then inquiry commission headed by Ranganath Mishra, an FIR was registered at Saraswati Vihar police station in North district. In the FIR, charges were made under sections 147, 148, 149, 395, 397, 302, 307, 436 and 440 of the Indian Penal Code.
