New Delhi, 20 February (HS): The Supreme Court has dismissed the bail plea of gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli. A bench headed by Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia refused to interfere with the Bombay High Court's order dismissing Gawli's bail plea.

In fact, Gawli is serving life imprisonment in the 2007 murder case of Mumbai Shiv Sena councilor Kamlakar Jamsandekar. In August 2012, the Mumbai Sessions Court sentenced Gawli to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 17 lakh. During the hearing, the lawyer appearing for Gawli said that the rest of the co-accused in the case have been granted bail. Gawli had said that he fulfills all the conditions of the Maharashtra government's 2006 amnesty policy.
