Imphal, 20 February (HS): Huge quantity of arms and explosives have been recovering by security forces during separate operations in hill and valley districts of Manipur.

Police said on Thursday that three improvised mortars, two musket rifles, a broken magazine, a spotter scope, two binoculars, a monocular site, a helmet, five bulletproof vests (without bulletproof plate) and two rifle slings were recovered from SL Zougam area of Machi police station area of Tengnoupal district.

In the second operation, an AK-56 rifle, two 9mm pistols (including magazines), a 40mm lathod gun, two Chinese hand grenades, two other grenades, five handsets (including three chargers), four headphones, two slings and a canoe bike were seized from Maojang village of Moreh police station area.

One SLR (with magazine), one 5.56 rifle, four HE hand grenades, one Chinese hand grenade, five 7.62mm live cartridges, one tear smoke shell LR, two Green Smoke 80MK1, one tear smoke shell (soft nose), two Baofeng radio sets (with antenna), two chargers and 02 5.56mm magazines were recovered from Irong village under Nongpok Sekmai police station area of Thoubal district.

Besides, one Siminlen Doungel (35), an active member of UKNA outfit was arrested from Tuibong village in Churachandpur district. He was involved in extortion, kidnapping, arms smuggling and drug trafficking. A mobile phone, a driving licence, a PAN card, a Canara Bank debit card, an SBI debit card, a voter ID, an AK-47 (with magazine), a 0.315 rifle (possibly looted from a gun shop), a 0.315 rifle (with magazine), a single barrel rifle (indigenously manufactured) and 23 7.62mm ball rounds were recovered from his possession.
