New Delhi, 20 February (HS): Congress has termed President Donald Trump's astonishing comment on the US Agency for International Development (USAID) funding of $21 million for Indian elections as absurd. However, on Trump's statement, Congress has demanded the Central Government to issue a white paper on this issue.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said in X Post today that 'USAID' is in a lot of discussion these days. It was established on 03 November 1961. Although the claims being made by the US President are absurd to say the least, nevertheless, the Government of India should issue a white paper as soon as possible, which contains a detailed description of the support given by 'USAID' to government and non-government institutions for decades.
Recently US President Donald Trump stopped the funding of $8 million to USAID to increase voting in India. Targeting the previous Biden government, President Trump said that giving around 182 crores (21 million dollars) to India to increase voting raises a question whether he was trying to get someone else elected.
